Hospital Prescriptions

Pateints leaving hospital may be given a prescription for medication.  If it is necessary to start taking the medication immediately, instructions will be given by the hospital to go to the hospital pharmacy and collect the medication.

However, in many situations, is will not be necessary to start taking the medication straight away and the hospitals will give the prescription to the patient to take it to their GP practice.  Hospitals know that it will take a few days for such requests for medication to be processed by GP practices and community pharmacies.

Prescriptions generated by hospitals should be delivered to the Health Centre.

Please allow two working days for the prescription to be processed.
